    But please, could you also explain to us the activity in the VISUAL parts of his brain while drawing?

    Maybe you didn’t pay enough attention, he has NO eyes. That’s the interesting part for science: we can also SEE with our hands.

    so he understands depth and space by touching but how does he translate it by using colour. he’s never seen light or space. i can see how he knows what he’s drawing because he feels the direction of the pencil line. im confused but it looks very impressive and a bit amazing

    Spoon fed? I just trust the opinions of people who are experts in their fields, neuro scientists in this case and as I understand it this man has changed views on how certain parts of the brain function.

    I can see how some people would thing this is so simple and some kind of scam but I dont think they really understand what it is to be blind.

    Makes me wonder actually whether the scam might be that he has not been blind all his life, but it all seems genuine enough.

    For all of you …
    For all of you drawing with closed eyes sounds easy. Maybe it is but whatever you are going to draw it is going to be something you had seen before, any shape. Think about this that is man never had SEEN anything. Next time you see the blind person tell him to draw a landscape and you’ll see the differences.

    Don’t reply, I have better things to do.

    My …

    @laughingBun
    My last comment was replying your older comment, just clarifying.

    The point is, it’s not simply learning how to “draw converging lines”. It’s understanding something in space and representing it on paper, which is certainly not a trivial process.

    Even if you learn that by converging lines you create perspective, you still have to understand and visualize the object you want to draw. That’s the reason for the interest in the painter.

  25. @laughingBun
    But …

    @laughingBun
    But that is exactly the point: the studies showed that he understands the world visually as sighted people do.

    What was thought before was that, for example, if I were blind and you told me how to draw a shape, I’d probably be able to draw and reproduce it; but that doesn’t mean that I would understand how that shape works, or how it looks like. I wouldn’t be able to, e.g., draw it from another angle or point of view. You have to understand space and perspective to do that.
